Making this photo session was as quick and easy as I didn't figure out. Ha ha !, but I didn't have to travel to the far and cold Scotland to meet a genuine "Scotchman", although the red skirt and the accessories are genuine Scottish.

Watching Trains Go By

I have to confess that I have always loved and enjoyed the trains; the older the better, and my fascination for these wonderful steel heavy machines have always captured my attention and imagination, since I was a kid. I used to play with toy trains and I remember that I did always enjoy watching the real ones when I had the opportunity to be close to them, and this is why now I'm trying to portray them in my visuals. And I was thinking a couple of days ago, that I, myself, could be portrayed with them and be my own subject in this new (personal) project and this is how it came out from the back of my head. So, I called my good photographer friend Roberto Olivares (http://www.robertolivares.cl/) to help me click the shutter and carry out this visuals. He accepted and agreed with my idea so we went to what is supposed to be a "magical" place (for me) which was used as the perfect location with these old, abandoned and oxide-corroded train wagons at what used to be a railroad workshop in the past years.
I loved the final result and I ought to thank Roberto Olivares for his technical assistance to get this project done.

Viendo Pasar Los Trenes

Debo confesar que siempre he amado y disfrutado de los trenes; cuanto más viejos, mejor, y mi fascinación por estas maravillosas máquinas de acero siempre han captado mi atención e imaginación, desde que era niño. Solía jugar con trenes de juguete y recuerdo que siempre disfrutaba ver los trenes reales cuando tenía la oportunidad de estar cerca de ellos, y así es por qué trato de retratarlos en mis fotos. Y pensé hace un par de días atrás, que yo, yo mismo, podría retratarme con ellos y ser mi propio tema en este nuevo (y personal) proyecto y así es como nació en mi mente. Entonces, llamé a mi amigo fotografo Roberto Olivares (http://www.robertolivares.cl/) para que me ayudara a aprietar el obturador y llevar a cabo las fotos. Él aceptó y concordó con mi idea asi que fuimos a lo que se supone ser un lugar "mágico" (para mi) la que fue usada como la locación perfecta con estos vagones de trenes viejos, abandonados y corroidos por el óxido en lo que era un taller ferroviario en años pasados. Me encantó el resultado final y debo agradecer a Roberto Olivares por su asistencia técnica para realizar este proyecto.

Despertando Con La Casa En Llamas

Chasin' The Wind / Persiguiendo El Viento

"Chasin' The Wind" was a project I started developing three months before it was finally done, the First of May 2009, Labour Day. The idea came out from listening to a song by the R&B American band The Fifth Dimension, "Up, Up And Away", back in 1970s, so I sought for the location and the elements that would be integrated to make the visual. Once I had the perfect location, I called my friend Javier Acum, who was interested right away from the first moment to take part of it. Then, the 1st of May (where a lot of people do not usually work), we got up very early in the morning and headed on a long trip to the port-town of Ventanas, in central Chile's coastline. But despite of that we had to walk nearly more than ten kilometers to get to the place where I'd make the shots, the long walking was extremely exhausted but I was happy with the final work. I have to thank Javier Acum for his unconditional support and collaboration in this project --- and for the loooong walking we had to make.

"Persiguiendo El Viento" fue un projecto que comencé a desarrollar tres meses ántes que finalmente estuviera realizado, el 1 de Mayo del 2009, Día del Trabajo. La idea salió al escuchar una canción de la banda norteamericana de Rhythm / Blues La Quinta Dimensión, "Mi Hermoso Globo", en los años 70s, asi que comencé a visualizar mi idea y los elementos que estarían integrados para realizar la foto. Una vez que tenía la locación perfecta, llamé a mi amigo Javier Acum, quien estuvo interesado desde el primer momento en tomar parte de ésto. Luego, el 1 de Mayo (en donde mucha gente por lo general no trabaja), nos levantamos muy temprano y nos dirijimos en un largo viaje hasta la ciudad-puerto de Ventanas, en la costa central de Chile. Pero a pesar de que tuvimos que caminar casi más de 10 kilómetros para llegar hasta el lugar donde haría las tomas, la larga caminata fue extremadamente cansadora pero yo quedé feliz con el trabajo final. Tengo que agradecer a Javier Acum por su incondicional ayuda y colaboración en este projecto --- y por la laaaaaaaarga caminata que tuvimos que hacer.

Breakin' The Law / Quebrantando La Ley

It's winter time. The days are cold, misty and rainy and although I have to confess that I don't like the winter season much at all, there are some good opportunities to go out and make some good photography as well. I have to confess that the winter days may be inspirational in some sense and this is what I am intending to do.
This week I had a vision of how a desperado (an outlaw, in terms of the Old Far West scene) would be in our present days. I took this fugitive and set him in the modern-days break of the law.
The modern desperado would run, escape from the Law but before, he would surrender himself to the hands of the Gods, the Lady Luck or whatever might come to him in his escapade (as when he lifts his hands up in the sky, meditates sitting upon the railtracks or stares steadfastly a drawing of the Devil in a wall) and finally gets lost in his mind making the mistake by thinking he has fooled the establishment away.
The outlaw escapes but he knows that there's nowhere to run to. Law is after his footsteps.

Es invierno. Los días son fríos, nublados y lluviosos y aunque tengo que confesar que no me gusta mucho la estación invernal, hay buenas oportunidades para salir y hacer una buena fotografía tambíen. Debo confesar que los días de invierno pueden ser muy inspiracionales en algun sentido y eso es lo que trato de hacer.
Esta semana tuve la visión de cómo un rufían (un fugitivo de la Ley, en términos de la escena del Viejo Lejano Oeste) sería en nuestros días. Tomé a este fugitivo y lo sitúe en el quebrantamiento de la Ley de los días modernos.
El moderno rufían correría, escaparía de la Ley pero antes, se entregaría a las manos de los Dioses, a la Señora Suerte o lo que sea pudiera venirle en su escapada (como cuando eleva sus manos al cielo, medita sentado en los rieles del tren u observa fijamente un dibujo del Diablo en una pared) y finalmente se pierde en su mente cometiendo el error al pensar que ha burlado lo establecido.
El fugitivo escapa pero él sabe que no hay dónde huir. La Ley está tras sus pasos.
