Three years ago, I made an inside-the-studio visuals with a Punk music band and one of these punk boys from that band, weeks later, asked me to make a photo shoot with him and a couple of his peers. I immediately agreed and I began to build up the session for them. I obviously already had in mind which location would have to be because I wanted to give the boys and their style a strong/aggressive but friendly look at the same time in visual terms. Then, three days before the photos, I headed to an old and abandoned railroad workshop in San Bernardo, Chile, to check out the possible spots for the shots. It's a fantastic pure concrete-made building and places like these do really drive me crazy visually speaking.
Then, the boys came from the other EDGE of the city (literally); I picked them up and drove them to this abandoned building.
We finished this photo session and we agreed a second one to complete the punk style even more. We made the second photo shoot at a railtracks under a freeway bridge so I could give the visuals some sort of deepness and freedom to the boys in their enviroment.
And this is how this long-term Punk-boys-project was born and it was something I used to keep in the back of my head for so long ago to get it done and also, this is how I began to get involved and research more and more about the punk style. Nevertheless, I wanted to showcase the Punk style from a different angle and context, much more artistic and not into the, sometimes, always vision of the punk boys enjoying the live music concerts ("tokatas", named by them), the beers, the drugs, the riots or marginality that is always attached to them by the society. This is an artistic look within the tough, aggressive and imponent presence.
I loved to get involved in this project from the start and I had so much fun making these photo shoots, that took hours, days, weeks and months working with the boys and I learned a lot too. But the enthusiasm, the time and cooperation of them were essential for the success of this work. Thank you for the good times, the beers, the music and magic of making photography and new friends.

EL PUNK NO HA MUERTO / más allá de los desenfrenos
Hace tres años, hice unas fotos dentro del estudio con una banda de música punk y uno de estos chicos de esa banda, semanas después, me pidío hacer una sesión fotográfica con él y un par de sus amigos. Inmediatamente me puse de acuerdo y comencé a construir la sesión para ellos. Obviamente ya tenía en mente qué locación tendría que ser porque quería darle a los chicos y su estilo una mirada fuerte/agresiva pero amigable al mismo tiempo en términos visuales. Entonces, tres días antes de las fotos, me dirigí a un viejo y abandonado taller de trenes en San Bernardo, Chile, para chequear los posibles lugares para las tomas. Es un edificio construido de concreto puro y lugares como éstos me fascinan visualmente hablando.
Entonces, los chicos vinieron del otro EXTREMO de la ciudad (literalmente);los recogí y nos dirigimos a este abandonado edificio.
Terminamos esta fotografía y acordamos una segunda sesión para completar el estilo punk aún más. Hicimos la segunda sesión en una línea férrea bajo un puente de una autopista asi podía darle a las fotos algo de profundidad y libertad a los chicos en su entorno.
Y así fue como nació este proyecto de largo plazo con los Punks y era algo que tenía en la cabeza desde hace mucho tiempo atrás por hacer, y además, así es como comencé a involucrarme e investigar más y más sobre el estilo Punk. Sin embargo, quería mostrar el estilo Punk desde un ángulo y contexto diferente, mucho más artístico y no dentro de la, a veces, siempre visión de los punks disfrutando de los conciertos de música e vivo ("tokatas", como ellos lo llaman), las cervezas, las drogas, los desenfrenos o la marginalidad que es siempre ligados a ellos por la sociedad. Esta es una mirada artística dentro de la presencia imponente, agresiva y dura.
Me encantó involucrarme en este proyecto y lo pasé muy bien haciendo estas sesiones de fotos, que tomó horas, días, semanas y meses trabajando con ellos, y también aprendí mucho. Pero el entusiasmo, el tiempo y la cooperación de ellos fueron esenciales para el éxito de este trabajo. Gracias por los buenos momentos, las cervezas, la música y la magia de hacer fotografía y nuevos amigos.
