It was a very cold winter afternoon when we headed to this location by the railtracks. I had found days earlier, this old and rain-wetted sofa and vehicle tires to add them to the visual that I wanted to make in the middle of the tracks, and it turned out as planned, considering that the trains pass by each moment everyday.

Fue una fría tarde de invierno cuando fuimos a esta locación junto a la linea férrea. Había encontrado días antes, este viejo sofá y neumáticos de vehículo humedecidos por la lluvia para agregarlos a la fotografía que quería hacer en medio de la línea, y resultó como lo había planeado, considerando que los trenes pasan a cada instante todos los días.

Originally, the idea of photo shooting on the bed of the Santiago's Mapocho River (the long dark troubled-water river that runs the whole city) was destined to another visual project I had in mind, and originally to another subject too. But, the chance of working with Ismael (Devasted Street Punk) and Fernando Milla Bramilla, whom I had worked with them separatedly before, came out as fast as I wanted to go down to the brink of marginality. So, I took the Boys to this fantastic place (where I think no one would easily do down to take a picture, or whatever) and we began with the shooting. We spent several hours down the river working but I think I was the happiest guy to be down there in the brink of Society's marginality for the first time having fun and making this session.

Originalmente, la idea de fotografiar en el lecho del Río Mapocho de Santiago (el largo río de aguas turbulentas que cruza la ciudad entera) estaba destinada a otro proyecto visual que tenía en mente, y originalmente para otro tema. Pero, la oportunidad de trabajar con Ismael (Devasted Street Punk) y Fernando Milla Bramilla, con quienes había trabajo por separado antes, nació tan rápido como quería bajar al borde de la marginalidad. Entonces, llevé a los muchachos hasta este fantástico lugar (a donde creo nadie bajaría a tomarse una foto, o cualquier cosa) y comenzamos con las fotos. Pasamos varias horas en el río trabajando pero creo que yo era el tipo más feliz de estar ahí abajo a orillas de la marginalidad de la Sociedad por primera vez pasandolo bien y haciendo esta sesión.

Me divertí mucho e hicimos un buen trabajo. Gracias muchachos.

To make this vintage punk music scene, I was inspired by the early 1980's wave punk band Blondie's song "One Way Or Another".

We headed to some specific underground-style urban locations to carry out these photos. I loved the shots where Punk Alvaro, sitting leg-crossed, reads a Rolling Stone magazine with a radio close to him and the writings on the wall behind; and the shots of the graffitti drawings on an old, abandoned, filthy and foul-smelling public elevator to make it look like a 1980's New York punk scene...... but it's here in Santiago, Chile.

Para realizar esta antigua escene punk, me inspiré en la canción "De Una U Otra Manera" ("One Way Or Another") de la banda punk wave de principio de los 80's Blondie.

Fuimos a algunas locaciones urbanas de estilo "under" específicas para llevar a cabo estas fotos. Me encantó las tomas en donde Punk Alvaro, sentado de piernas cruzadas, lee una revista Rolling Stone con una radio junto a él y los escritos en la pared detrás; y las tomas de los graffittis en un viejo, abandonado, sucio y mal oliente ascensor público para que se viera como una escena punk de Nueva York de los 80's....... pero es acá en Santiago, Chile.

King For A Day / Rey Por Un Día

I took the name of "King For A Day" to this project from a song by the 1980s British New Wave group Thompson Twins. I listened to it a couple of times and I was fascinated with the music and words, and I found out that some visual idea would come up out of my mind and, this is what finally turned out. Something simple but reflexive at the same time, depending on how it is viewed.
And once again, and for the second time, I made this project on 1st of May, Labor Day. I worked on this same date three years ago when I embarked on the "Chasin' The Wind" project (2009) on a beach as well, just like in this one.

Tomé el nombre de "Rey Por Un Día" para este proyecto de una canción de la banda Británica de New Wave de los 80s Thompson Twins. La escuché un par de veces y me fascinó la música y letra, y descubrí que alguna idea visual saldría de mi cabeza y, ésto es lo que resultó. Algo simple pero reflexivo al mismo tiempo, dependiendo de cómo se mire.
Y una vez más, y por segunda vez, realizé este proyecto el día 1 de Mayo, Día del Trabajo. Trabajé en esta misma fecha hace tres años atrás cuando me embarqué en el proyecto "Persiguiendo El Viento" (2009) también en una playa, tal como en éste.

I recently had the opportunity to attend to the show for one of the still-ongoing musical icons of the 1980s: Cyndi Lauper. She performed at the Viña del Mar Enjoy Casino (Chile) and I was there to enjoy her intimate and warm act.

Recientemente tuve la oportunidad de asistir al concierto de uno de los aun vigentes íconos musicales de los 80s: Cyndi Lauper. Ella actuó en el Casino Enjoy de Viña del Mar (Chile) y yo estuve ahí para disfrutar de su espectáculo íntimo y cálido.
